Product Features
Active Cardioid dynamic handheld vocal mic with a nice top end presence. It comes with a heavy duty clip and bag.

First Impressions
Just like the Encore 100 this Encore 200 is hefty and stylish. The build quality is blatantly obvious as soon as you lift it from the box. This thing is a tank and it offers the added bling of a classy bronze colored windscreen. As with all Blue products it gives the look and feel of style along with quality. The mic has a solid feel and a nice weight. I’ve worked with many newer era handheld vocal mics and this new line of En-Core mics are absolutely the most solid of all of them. This mic differs from the 100 in two ways. It’s an active mic that requires phantom power and it’s a bit brighter and open sounding.

In Use
This mic is definitely a departure from current trends in handheld vocal mics. What I mean by that is that most of the current new mics are very light, very bright, very tight patterns and mega hot outputs. The encore 200 differs on all accounts. First of all the 200 is a very well balanced mic. It’s not muddy like older designs nor shrill like many newer ones although it does have a more open sounding top to the lesser expensive Encore 100. When recording this handheld vocal mic, I find that I needed very little EQ to make to Encore 200 sound good. I also found the output level to be very easy to work with. It neither peaked to easily nor needed excessive gain. The polar pattern of the mic is definitely cardioid and not hypercardioid. While some applications such as bands that use mega loud stage volume do require singers to put their lips right up to a mic with a super tight pattern, there are many times when a slightly looser pattern work better. These are where the encore mics shine. In situations where dynamics ,natural vibe and good mic technique are in use the Encore series by Blue Microphones are a great choice.

As a final note like the industry standard mic the 70’s this hefty beast will not break in two when it hits the floor. When you lift an encore mic from the box you will feel that your money has been well spent on something more that a blob of plastic encased electronics.

PROS
Incredible build quality, natural clear sound, wide pattern, grooves in the body for extra grip

CONS
wide pattern

Conclusion
This mic is a sure winner for the right applications. If you want to record a handheld vocal mic, this is a great choice. The muddy sound of recorded handheld dynamic mics has somehow been overcome by the vigilant design crew at Blue. When deciding between handheld dynamic vocal mics this one is a little different. You might even consider it’s sound a little more in the rage of a condenser. This makes it an even more multipurpose device than you average Mic. The Encore 200 stands apart from quite a few other mic offerings so it deserves serious consideration.
