First Impressions
Slate Digital's Trigger is extremely easy to set up and use, and not only are the samples the best I have heard, they are super low latency. With the added features of tweaking the samples, as well as layering different samples to create your own sounds - Trigger is amazing.
In Use
I like to put a gate before trigger, and put a really tight setting on it, so you just get a quick chopped transient. This simply helps provide less concerns of a misfire on Trigger. Once that is set up, I add Trigger and solo the track, and then the fun begins. Tweaking dynamics and velocity allows for a more humanized sound, tuning the sample to fit the song, as well as being able to add or remove layers to further tailor the sound, is all there for the highest level of flexibility. The coolest part is that with the overhead and room samples blended in, you don't need any reverb plug-ins on your snare tracks! I have used this for improving the snare track, where hi hat bleed was an issue, or where we did not have a snare that's sound fit the song, as well as aux sending the kick track to an FX bus with Trigger on it, to blend the triggered sample and the mic'ed kick together. This is a very useful and powerful tool, that really allows for more options in fine tuning your sound and mix.
PROS
Easy to use
Fast low latency response
Flexible controls and layering features
The absolute best sample library
CONS
Trying to find one.
Conclusion
It is very hard for me to find anything I don't like about this plug-in. It simply has great sounding samples that sit in the mix very well. It's high level of control and tweakibility, layering, etc is amazing.
Whether fixing an issue (like bleed in a snare track), blending with mic'ed tracks for metal songs, or simply adding a sound that better fits the feel of the song, I am glad to own and use Slate Digital Trigger. Slate continues to knock it out of the park.
