As close to backup as I get is I burn all the files to DVD before I move / pack / power down the rig. I shoot video to a Laptop and always feel really nervous when there is no tape in the camera. But it's never failed because I keep it simple with the laptops OS keep my windows clean

I don't entirely agree that a 2tk backup is a waste of time - for a live event where you don't get a 2nd chance, anything (preferably with a reasonable mix) is better than nothing.

And on the subject of UPS - HELL YEAH!!! A location rig without a battery backed UPS is just plain suicide - 1/2 the venues in Texas I've worked have had 'original / vintage' (depending on which side of marketing you prefer) wiring schemes and think that 'ground' is what you are standing on.

Can I get 2 pin sockets, a side of brown out and shocks from a broken '58 to go? (True Story)

Power at a venue sure is an "iceberg" issue... luckily when I reached for a surge suppressor I accidentally got a circuit analyzer instead, with a little series of green, amber and red lights to show me exactly HOW garbled up the hot/neutral/ground setup is... amazing how some places are wired exactly backwards.
