How did you start?

How did you get started in audio engineering? Did you teach yourself, get taught, or go to school? Most engineers I know learned from others who were already in the industry. I interned at several studios in Dallas and Houston throghout the 90' just absorbing everything thrown at me. I opened a small studio in the late 90's and have been recording ever since. I think it is so imporant to surround yourelf wih engineers who push you to learn and encourage you to get involved. I saw interns come and go most of which just blended into the background.
