To MIDI, or not to MIDI
Remember the days of large racks full of synthesizers, tone generators, samplers, sequencers and things of that nature! Well now software reigns supreme and there is no need for all of this antiquated equipment or is there? I would like to know how people are implementing MIDI into their setup? Are you using mainly software synth/samplers or hardware or a good combination? I still use a hardware sequencer but use a combination of hardware and software synths and samplers. Is there any retro equipment that you just can’t find a replacement in the digital world? And also what kind of projects are you using these setups for? For my currant setup I use a MIDI guitar as a controller for all my synths and tone generators it also runs into my sequencer so I can program songs with the MIDI guitar. I have a MIDI distribution unit that takes the output of the MIDI guitar as well as the output of the sequencer and allows me to toggle between the two and route them to my tone generators. Either output is routed via the MIDI distro to my digital interface and into my DAW and soft synths/sequencers. That is my elaborate setup for the time! I look forward to hearing what other people are doing with this time tested technology!
Cheers, Nicholas
