Ahead Drumsticks

I recently bought a pair of Ahead drumsticks, and honestly have no idea what all the blabbing was about. I have heard people say that they sound different and break easily, and just plain bad mouth them. The major differences I find is that they are lighter, so I can play faster - longer, and that since they are lighter, they sound a touch softer on my cymbals. However, recently recording some drums for a friends song, in the mix I couldn't tell a difference at all. The fact that the sleeves and tips are replaceable (and affordably so), that coupled with the reasonable buy in on a complete set makes me think that I have no use for wood sticks anymore.

Has anyone else tried (or switched) to the Ahead sticks? What are your thoughts/experiences?
