bum head phones or not?

so this should probably be under monitoring but i figure i will start it here.
if need move it.

a good friend of mine picked up a set of the ultrasone 650 pro head phones, true love he tells me, true love.
he mentioned to me the other day, they were only five months beyond the two year warranty, not much but that is a bit.
well here is the kicker.
are they crap, or just a bad run, i think their may be a problem and i do not say this lightly as i do not want to unjustly slag a company for a issues they will solve as no one is impervious to mistakes.
so here's the deal, the plastic on the head band is cracking and falling apart, very bad, very very bad.
for me, if a company takes care of their customers, shit happen, i can deal with that, but the replay my bud got was, we do repairs.
i think this is a defect as i do know my friend takes very good care of his gear, i mean very good, very good.
also he is the only one that uses these, every one else get stuck with the Sony's
upon contacting ultrasone he inquired as to rather this was a issues they have seen in the past.
ultrasone claimed there was a issues such as his but only on the 550's.
this is me, but the material looks the same on the 550's as the 650s, to me, but that's me.
now i do not, and i repeat, do not, want slam a company for no reason, that is not what this is about.
so i am asking has anyone else seen anything like this.
this is hard to see but under good light, as you can clearly see the issue is very visible.
so check you headphones and see if he is alone or if any one else has seen such a issues.
thanks guy's.

he says he is sending them back for repair and is asking them to cover it.
i would hate to spend that much money and see this after a couple of years
but i am not that particular on my head phones i use the sonys because for me they seem to hold up the best.
i pick up some Audio-Technica’s and was not happy with the build.
i have some sennheiser HD 280 pro's and i do not think they are all that great, build wise.
